A New Layniefingers Video Series - Tips & Tricks

Hi! I'm so excited to finally have some new content for everyone! While recording some videos, I realized I have lots of little tips that don't really need a whole 5-10 minute video explaining them. So, I'm going to do these as they come to me and collect them into a playlist of tips and tricks!

This first one is extremely useful, and I use it fairly often! I find that the cotton swabs you buy tend to be large, so when I'm trying to either clean up my cuticle area I take polish off my nails accidentally. Plus, if I make a mistake on my nails, they're entirely too big to do a quick spot removal.

The solution? If you have a toothpick or a bamboo skewer, you can make your own tiny cotton buds for easy cleanup! Watch the video to see how.

Fibro flares, the plague, hospitals, and getting back on my feet.

You may have noticed there has been a slight... lapse in posting this winter. I would love to tell you I had a great reason- I won the lottery and was wandering Europe, tasting amazing foods and seeing amazing sights, or perhaps joining the space program and going into an intense period of training. Maybe I could have joined the witness protection program and had to assume a new (cooler?) identity.

But no, nothing that interesting. Instead, this winter has been filled with emergency room visits, hospital stays (none mine, thankfully), fibromyalgia flares and entirely too much pain to deal with. I've spent the last two months trying to manage the fibro while the weather played yoyo, sometimes going from 80° to 30° in one day. (For those of you using celsius instead of fahrenheit, that would be 26.6° to -1.1° in one day.) In short, weather changes hurt, and this winter has been full of them.

However, don't give up hope- I'm working on editing video I managed to record but hadn't had the brain power to edit (the drugs that help manage the pain tend to turn me into a mental cucumber.), so there are fun things coming. I learned how to water marble, and I've done some fun layering things. I've also got plans...

So bear with me. The weather is warming up a bit (well, in theory, even though it's supposed to be 30° tonight!!) and I've got plans. I really hope you'll join me in this new exploration of video. Also, if there's anything you'd like to know how to do, leave me a comment and I'll add it to my list of videos to shoot!

Rumors of my death have been strongly exaggerated! Well, maybe not strongly, but... I'm not dead, so that's good, right? :D

EEEEE!!!! Some squee for the new year!

OMG, I'm dying. I'm winding down from a batch of insomnia by watching puppy videos, and this one just killed me ded from cute! (Yes, that's a misspelling, but when you're ded from cute you can't spell so good.)

Happy 2013, have some adorable puppies!

Home again, and flaring again.

My mom is home again, mostly back on track. Unfortunately, the hospital stay coincided with one heck of a weather change, and the combination of that plus the stress of the hospital has triggered a fibro flare. No big surprise here, I've been through this before.

So, instead of leaving the blog empty again, I'm going to share a song from youtube that has had be laughing until I almost passed out. I've watched this video four times today, and I'm not done. This one's a keeper, in my opinion!

Hospitals suck, so here's a design I've been holding on to...

Well, I'm still at the hospital with my mom. It looks like they aren't going to be able to figure out what caused her problems, but sometimes things happen. However, they've found a problem with her heart, so we're going to be here for at least a couple of days more. It's ok, though, because what they found isn't really necessarily all that bad if they can fix it now.

So, while I'm here and polish-less, I figured I'd share an image I'm planning a video tutorial for. I'll still do the video, so consider this image a teaser of sorts.

This design is actually fairly simple. I used striping tape and two colors of polish, and I set the corners with black stones to add a bit of sparkle. So cute, and there's SO much room for tweaking. This could be funky and fun or elegant. It's all up to the colors you use!

So if you would, keep my mom in your thoughts, and let's hope for the best. I want to bring her home for Christmas, and for many Christmases to come.
